STRENGTHS:
Fearless: A life of peace and commitment is the only thing that Benjiro really fears. Otherwise, he has no family that he cares for and views death as an inevitability to embrace rather than fear. This lack of concern for the death of others and himself makes Benjiro even more dangerous than your run of the mill soldier.
Martial Artist: A vast knowledge of martial arts gives him the edge in hand to hand combat. Not to mention that his particular style is unorthodox and unpredictable.
High Reflexes: Practice in the martial arts and a natural affinity have given Benjiro above normal reflexes which increases his ability to fight and ups his chances of dodging surprise attacks.
Experienced Combatant: Benjiro is far from an expert in anything, but he's no pushover. He was raised in a "school of hard knocks" philosophy and though Benjiro has been fighting large scale battles for only a year, there is no doubt he is a born fighter. He's had to constantly prove himself to survive life in the ghetto with eleven status.
WEAKNESSES:
Impulsive: Brash, lewd, and rude. Benjiro usually avoids any kind of responsibility with organizations of authority. He's hot-headed and prefers to set his own boundaries and live by his own rules. This short-sighted attitude leads to him making plenty of mistakes.
Weak Minded: He grew up learning little of morality and it confuses his perception of right and wrong. He can easily be persuaded to either side of a situation if someone were to give him the right kind of reasoning. On top of all this, he has almost no formal education. This is not to say he is unintelligent, but he's illiterate and simply does not think things through.
Mild Insomniac: In his recent teenage years Benjiro has met with an inability to sleep on some nights. Sometimes the lack of sleep gets so intense that it leaves his mind unstable and he acts unusual. When this happens, Benjiro has been known to become irritable and violent.
Alcoholic: A vice for obvious reasons. Benjiro enjoys a variety of alcohol, but his drink of choice continues to be Britannian Vodka. Given his sober attitude, most people would consider his alcoholism to be a good thing since he is more cheerful and polite than when he's sober. However, his drinking habits have resulted in a number of reprecussions, such as bad health, a spotty memory, and it impedes his reflexes making him an overall worse fighter while drunk.

*Negative traits*
Rude: Ben has a cavalier attitude towards others and has little respect for anyone, especially those that he considers enemies. The only people that seem to calm him and his ferocity are Kellen Kozuki, General Tohdo, and Zero. He can be brash and hotheaded, but he respects those that have proven themselves to be strong. Benjiro resents those among the Japanese people that would rather "bitch and moan" as he puts it, instead of stand up for themselves and take action.
Nihilistic: Most people fight because they believe that they are achieving a noble goal or have an intention to help themselves or survive. Ben doesn't share these feelings. He fights simply because killing is all he knows how to do. Benjiro does not believe in fate, but does feel that he is not in control of what he does. All he knows is that he is drawn to fighting and continuously finds himself on the battlefield. And if he is to be a killer, he'd rather fight in the name of freedom than in the name of any king. Lacking this belief in something greater than himself eliminates the fear of death, but also limits his will to continue fighting or follow orders.
Arrogant: He has an unhealthy amount of confidence in himself and his abilities. Although this would normally be a good thing, it gets Benjiro into a lot of difficult situations that he would never have lived through without the help of his fellow Black Demons. Ben is very proud and easy to taunt, so he can get way in over his head sometimes.

Compassionate: Though he claims to not care about anyone else, he sometimes shows a more gentle and kind side to children and animals.
Brave: To put it bluntly, Ben does not know what fear feels like. His nihilistic views make death into something that he embraces as inevitable, not just for himself, but for everyone. The end result, Benjiro takes advantage of every opportunity both on and off the battle field and exploits risk.
Funny: Although he has a mostly serious attitude, Benjiro does have a sense of humor. This mostly comes out when he's been drinking, and most people that aren't on the wrong end of his jokes find him to be funny. This is a calmer part of his nature that makes him a bit more charismatic and likeable. Without his sense of humor, Ben would most likely be hated by everyone he's ever met.

HISTORY:
Benjiro is somewhat enigmatic about his past, claiming to have no memory of his childhood. He is in fact the bastard son of a Britannian duke named Auberdine Saint Claire and a Japanese waitress, Kimiko Honehime. He was born into the turmoil of war and the Britannian invasion of his home. At the age of four his mother fell ill, and as a result of his father's uncaring and ignorance, died. He was then taken in by his grandfather, Kisuke, who trained him in an array of martial arts. His grandfather continuously criticized Benjiro, claiming he was too impulsive and hotheaded to truly master the art of fighting. At the age of ten Ben found Kisuke's lifeless body on his bed. He had died of old age in his sleep.
From that point on Benjiro basically raised himself in the Shinjuku Ghetto. He resorted to pick pocketing on trains and outside of casinos. He stole from both Britannians and the Japanese alike. He never discriminated when someone had enough wealth. Benjiro was also quick to pick fights with people over random things for petty reasons. At the age of 13 he had a chance encounter with his father. Benjiro was caught pick pocketing from him, not knowing that the man he had stolen from was his father. He fought off both of Auberdine's body guards, but was subdued by the local Britannian police. Auberdine remembered Ben's face from an old picture and offered him a job as his personal bodyguard. Benjiro was not so willing to forgive his father, but accepted with the idea of robbing the old man and killing him after gaining his trust in mind. He was given board at the Saint Claire Manor, sharing a room with his half brother of the same age, Sebastien. Sebastien was a kind gentleman and despite Ben's brooding nature, he tried his best to be friends with his newly found sibling. Ben mistook this friendliness for bragging and returned it with a cold attitude. Benjiro hated being looked down upon. For the next year, Ben used some of his father's wealth to purchase pistols and swords, spending his nights training his skills with them.
Auberdine tried to adjust Ben into this new lifestyle and enrolled him at Ashford Academy at the age of 14. Ben disliked being told to sit in a chair and listen to a teacher twist history and science to favor an empire that built itself on the backs of other people by stripping them of their freedom. He would spend his evenings sneaking out disguised in what looked like a traditional ninja gi and "patrol" the streets of Shinjuku, dealing out "punishment" to those that preyed on the weak. After roughing up and sometimes killing these thugs, Ben would give the victims a small speech about the importance of standing up for themselves. The elevens soon gave this night time persona of his the nickname "Ranbou", since he would fight anyone. It didn't matter if they were Britannian or Japanese, noble or commoner.
Ben soon became bored with his double life and ran away to live by himself in Shinjuku again at the age of 17. He continued with his vigilante identity, but one night he was approached by representatives of the Black Knights, particularly Kallen Kozuki. It wasn't easy, and he refused at first, but her persistence paid off. After a bit of a fist fight she convinced Ben to join their ranks and made him a part of one of their knightmare squads. He fought bravely in many of their battles and grew a deep respect for the man called Zero. Considering he had a much higher rate of survival than most of the other knightmare pilots, he would have moved up as a captain in the ranks of the Black Knights, but refused on the basis that both giving and following orders are "against his nature".
After Zero's capture and imprisonment, Benjiro continued in the surviving Black Knight's underground activities. Benjiro decided he didn't care about Zero's true identity, believing that people's motives for fighting make no difference in the results of their actions. He became a Black Demon and was entrusted with one of their mysterious new black knightmare frames named "The Matsukaze". He has played a key role in most of the Black Demon's current military operations, but refuses to lead his own squad of knightmares. Consequently, he was instead nominated to be a member of the Kamikaze's new elite force, The Court.
